Overnight Dispatches

From Rotoworld, Rotowire:

The Phillies hope to activate Mike Lieberthal from the DL on June 23 in Boston, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Lieberthal is out with a strained left hip. Lieberthal has been injured for a majority of 2006 season. His hip has responded well to therapy so he will likely be in the lineup for the June 23 game against Boston.

Kerry Wood (shoulder) had a very productive bullpen session on Tuesday.  Manager Dusty Baker does not plan on moving Kerry Wood to the bullpen upon his return from the DL,  “…I’d probably say no because his turnaround time, his rebound time, is less now than it was (last year),” Baker said when asked about moving Wood to the bullpen. “Right now, the bullpen is really not the best thing for him.” Wood is eligible to come off the DL next Thursday.

Chuck James would likely be the first to be called upon if the Braves need a starter, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. James, who made seven relief appearances for the Braves before straining a hamstring in early May, holds an ERA of 2.36 in 26 2/3 innings as a starter for Triple-A Richmond, striking out 23 and walking just four in the process.

Adrian Gonzalez
‘s second double of the game drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth Thursday in the Padres’ 5-3 win over the Dodgers. Gonzalez then scored an insurance run on Josh Bard’s single. The Padres have topped the Dodgers in each of their last five meetings. Gonzalez is batting .350 with two homers and five doubles during June.

Adam Dunn hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th to give the Reds a 3-1 win over the Brewers on Wednesday. It was the first game in Cincinnati to enter extra innings scoreless since 1991. Dunn had his first chance to end it in the bottom of the ninth, but with Ken Griffey Jr. on second, his liner to center was hit right at Brady Clark. In the 11th, he declined to give the defense an opportunity, hitting his 22nd homer of the year off Dan Kolb. The win salvaged the finale of a three-game series for the Reds.
