Overnight Dispatches

From Rotoworld:

Kerry Wood will throw a simulated game Tuesday, but his next start is still up in the air. It’s possible that Wood could return as early as Sunday if he feels OK, but it is more likely that he will come back sometime next week. If Wood has a productive session and is pain-free on Wednesday the Cubs will bump Sean Marshall and give him Sunday’s start against the Twins.

Rich Aurilia was out of the lineup for the second straight game Monday after straining his right biceps in Saturday’s game, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “He threw (Monday). He just had some minor soreness,” trainer Mark Mann said. “He should be ready to play in the field Tuesday.

Doug Davis threw seven shutout innings and struck out nine Tigers on Monday night. Davis walked just one in his best start of the season. He has a 27/6 K/BB ratio in 28 innings in June after entering the month at 42/44 in 66 innings. It should be fine to resume using him in mixed leagues.

From Baseball Prospectus:

Moises Alou is dealing with back spasms. For him, this is nothing. The aging player’s body looks like it’s been at war, covered in scars and twisted in ways it simply shouldn’t have twisted. Back spasms? Those are nothing to Alou, though the pain is going to keep him out a couple games while he spends another few days with the trainers. There’s likely some connection to his still healing ankle–with the limp he experienced taxing his back a bit–though the Giants remain among the best at controlling cascades and recurrences. The DL isn’t in the future for Alou, at least from this injury.
