Say Goodbye to: Cristian Guzman, Ronny Paulino

MI – Cristian Guzman
Acquired: 2010 5th-round Minor Leage selection
Released: August 24th, 2010
Guzman was yet another selection to try to shore up the MI position for the RoadRunners. Historically an empty hitter, with only a high batting average, Guzman wasn’t half bad. Originally slated to be the opening-day shortstop, Guzman entered a job-sharing arrangement with young SS Ian Desmond and 2B Adam Kennedy. Guzman was traded to the Texas Rangers as infield insurance on July 30th, and his time in Texas has been limited to pinch-hitting and defensive replacement, and he hasn’t played in two weeks, so he’s no longer contributing.

C – Ronny Paulino
Acquired: 2010 4th-round Minor Leage selection
Released: August 24th, 2010
Marlins C Ronny Paulino did a good job for the majority of the season. Normally a platoon hitter who hits for average, he was selected to assist the RoadRunners until Buster Posey was called up. However, with Chris Iannetta going south, Paulino played more than expected, which is similar to his station in reality. Called upon to be the everyday catcher due to the injury of John Baker, Paulino was dragging by July. In fact, since July 1st, he was only batting .053. Earlier this week, he tested positive for PED use, and was issued a 50-game suspension. Since there are only 42 games left for the Marlins, he won’t be playing again in 2010, and with a $10 salary, he’s not worth protecting. Oh, and we picked up Geovany Soto in trade last week.
