Speedy Tabata Wants to Boost His Power

Jose Tabata has a goal to hit more home runs this season. “Yeah, I’m bigger,” said Tabata. “I worked out in the gym every day this winter. I want to be bigger and stronger. This year, my idea is to hit more home runs.” Tabata hit just four dingers in his first 441 major league plate appearances with the Pirates last season. He didn’t have great power numbers in the minors, hitting 29 home runs over 2,008 plate appearances. He can still provide fantasy value via stolen bases, but the power thing is a pipe dream. Blake Still Set as Dodgers’ Opening-Day Third Baseman

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he has talked to Casey Blake about being flexible and playing some outfield, though he is still expected to be the primary third baseman. Of course, Blake played the outfield regularly with the Indians from 2005-06, but this is a lot to ask of someone who is now 37 years old. He may add some additional flexibility this season, but it’s unlikely he’ll be very useful in most mixed leagues. (Rotoworld / Los Angeles Dodgers on Twitter)
