Notes:

  • Zack Cozart is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s matinee against the Cardinals. It’s just a day off for Cozart, who is hitting just .129 (4-for-31) to begin the season. Cesar Izturis will start in his place at shortstop and bat eighth. (Rotoworld)
  • Cliff Lee came within one out of a complete game Tuesday, holding the Mets to three runs — two earned — on eight hits and no walks in the 8-3 victory. Lee struck out six on the night. He gave up a two-out single to Justin Turner in the ninth, and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel decided to give him the hook. Lee had thrown 107 pitches, but it was a pretty stress-free outing for the veteran southpaw. He’ll bring a 1.08 ERA into Cincinnati next week. (Rotoworld)
  • Kris Medlen allowed one run in seven innings as the Braves beat the Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday. This is more like what we expected from the 27-year-old in his 2012 encore, even if it was against the lowly Marlins. Medlen allowed just three hits despite striking out only one. With a few off days built into the schedule, his next start will likely be against the Royals next Tuesday. (Rotoworld)
  • Justin Turner will start at first base for Ike Davis on Tuesday against Cliff Lee, ESPN New York reports. Spin: Davis is just 4-for-27 on the year overall and 1-for-11 lifetime against Lee, so he gets the night off with the righty-hitting Turner starting in his stead. (Rotowire)
  • Kyuji Fujikawa recorded his second save of the season and first since being named closer in the Cubs’ 6-3 win over the Brewers on Tuesday. It was a reassuring outing for Fujikawa, who entered with an 11.57 ERA. The 32-year-old struck out two and pitched around an error to close it down, going through the heart of the Brewers order in the process. If there was any hesitation to grab him based on his shaky outings in the early going, there should be none now. (Rotoworld)
  • Jayson Werth went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI Tuesday against the White Sox. Werth now has three home runs on the season and is 6-for-13 over his last three games, making him a must-start at this point. (Rotowire)
  • Pirates outfielder Travis Snider made his third start on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks and put together his best performance at the plate. He went 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in a 6-5 win. Snider led off the second inning with a double before hitting a single in the eighth. He is batting .231 (3 for 13) through eight games with two RBI. (CBS Sports)
