Gaudin Bumped to Friday after Extra-Innings Appearance

Padres manager Bud Black announced that Kevin Correia would move up to take Chad Gaudin’s start on Wednesday against the Dodgers. Gaudin was bumped to Friday against the Angels. The move was necessitated by circumstances. Correia threw only 82 pitches in his last start on Saturday. Gaudin was forced to throw 37 pitches in relief during Sunday’s 18-inning loss to Arizona. Gaudin Tagged, and Not in a “Web 2.0” Sense

Chad Gaudin was tagged for seven runs in 5 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks. Once again, it was a case of too many walks, as he gave up five today. Gaudin has allowed just 27 hits and one homer (that hit by Chris Snyder today) in 33 1/3 innings for the Padres, but he’s walked 26 in that span and has a 5.40 ERA as a result. He’s always been wild, but he has to do better than this if he expects to last in the rotation. (Rotoworld)

Gaudin Walks Seven, Shown the Door

Chad Gaudin surrendered four runs in 4 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Cubs. Gaudin gave up just one hit, but he walked seven, bringing his total to 17 bases on balls in 22 innings for the Padres. He’s been effective in two of his four starts anyway, but he’s on a short leash. (Rotoworld)

Gaudin Goes Seven Strong Innings Against Astros

Padres SP Chad Gaudin, who pitched five shutout innings in his first start for the Padres before giving up six runs in 5 2/3 in his second, bounced back with seven strong innings Friday at Houston. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks, recording five strikeouts. He was out-dueled by Wandy Rodriguez, though, and suffered a hard-luck loss. Gaudin pitched well enough to get a look in NL-only leagues, but he’s not exactly an ace in the making and tends to have control issues. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at the Cubs. Roster Moves – May 5th – Week 5

FAAB Acquisition:

  • RP Clay Condrey, Phillies ($0 bid, Add to Actives)

Up:

Cut:

Notes:

  • Tabata will miss the next six weeks with a hamstring strain, and he was only hitting .250 at AA Altoona, so at this point he’s not a strong protection for 2010.

Gaudin Can’t Keep Walking Batters Like That

Chad Gaudin was charged with six runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss versus the Dodgers on Sunday. Gaudin wasn’t doing all that poorly with three runs through five innings, but he couldn’t retire the opposing pitcher, Chad Billingsley, with two outs and two men on in the sixth. He was then pulled from the game after allowing four runs and reliever Arturo Lopez allowed both inherited runners to score. Gaudin will get the Astros in Houston next time out, making him a risky NL-only play. The Dodgers wasted no time getting to Gaudin (0-1) and scored three runs in the first inning against the right-hander in his second start with the Padres on Saturday. Gaudin was charged with six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, taking a 7-4 loss. He was pulled after giving up three two-out singles, including an opposite-field, run-scoring hit by fellow starter Chad Billingsley. Juan Pierre greeted Arturo Lopez with an RBI single and Hudson followed with a two-run double for a 7-1 lead. Gaudin pitched pretty well in between his rough start and unceremonious exit on Sunday, but the box score doesn’t really show that. Gaudin was decent in his first two starts with the Pads this season, pitching a total of 10 2/3, tossing five shutout innings in his first start. He remains only a low-end option for his next start however, which is scheduled for Friday at Houston against Wandy Rodriguez. (CBS Sports, Rotoworld)

Gaudin Gets No Decision in Roadrunner, Padre Debut

In his first start as a Padre, Chad Gaudin hurled five shutout innings, but didn’t factor into the decision in a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday night. Gaudin allowed only three singles in five innings, walking four and striking out five. He threw 88 pitches, but that number will surely rise as he gets more starts. Gaudin was on a roll at Triple-A Portland and figures to have some added value pitching at Petco Park. He’ll get quite a few starts at Petco and could be a decent player to take a flyer on in deep leagues. San Diego signed Gaudin to a minor league contract on April 12 after he was released by the Chicago Cubs. Gaudin is a two-start pitcher this week, with his second start coming on Sunday at Los Angeles against Chad Billingsley. He is however only worth using in the deepest of NL-only leagues.
