Roster Moves – Week 12 – June 19th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Jose Arredondo, Reds ($1, Add to Actives)
  • RP Josh Lindblom, Dodgers ($1, Add to Actives)

Up:

  • MI Elian Herrera
  • OF Jose Tabata (to UT)

Move:

  • SS Zack Cozart (from MI)
  • CM Todd Frazier (from UT)

Down:

  • SS Troy Tulowitzki
  • 3B Chris Johnson (from CM)
  • RP Shawn Camp

Cut:

  • RP Wilton Lopez
  • C Welington Castillo

Notes:

  • Cubs C Welington Castillo was activated from the 15-Day DL (knee) on Thursday, June 14th, and was optioned to Triple-A Iowa four days later (June 18th) with the activation of starting C Geovany Soto. Castillo still retains rookie eligibility.
  • Braves RP Kris Medlen was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, June 15th, but in a surprise move, Jair Jurrjens (picked up by Misogynistic Padres for $0) was named the interim starter for the Braves, while Medlen will stay in middle-relief.
  • Astros RP Wilton Lopez was placed on the 15-Day DL with a strained elbow on June 15th.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Cody Ransom was picked up by his 3rd WBRL team of the season, with Shoeless Jews snagging the now Brewer for a $1 bid. He was released May 29th by Cover Zero.

Roster Moves – Week 8 – May 22nd, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • 1B Matt Adams, Cardinals ($12 bid, add to reserves)
  • 3B Todd Frazier, Reds ($5 bid, add to reserves)

Cuts:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz
  • SP Wily Peralta (Minors)

Notes:

  • SP Tim Stauffer was placed back on the 15-Day DL on 5/18, retroactive to 5/15 with the same forearm strain that caused him to miss the first six weeks of the season.
  • Brewers SP Wily Peralta was a casualty of a RoadRunners roster crunch. While being ranked as the top Brewers’ prospect, he hasn’t been sharp thus far at Triple-A Nashville,  owning a 1-4 record, with 5.36 ERA, 1.40 WHIP with a 38:22 K:BB ratio in 42 innings.
  • Giants OF Nate Schierholtz has been passed on the depth chart by Gregor Blanco, and this was with Aubrey Huff out and Brandon Belt playing at 1B exclusively.
  • New acquisition Matt Adams will likely see plenty of time at 1B for the Cardinals, as Lance Berkman injured his knee (6-8 weeks minimum) and Allen Craig is also on the DL.  AaRr won the bidding for $12, while Get Off Kong! bid $5 and Misogynistic Padres bid $2.
  • New acquisition Todd Frazier will likely be receiving playing time due to Scott Rolen’s extended DL stint (some suggesting he’ll be out for the year).  Additionally, Juan Francisco was traded to Atlanta, and Juan Cairo, well, he’s 38-years old. Misogynistic Padres was the only other bid, at $2.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Cody Ransom (3B, Diamondbacks) was picked up for a $0 bid by Cover Zero.  Ransom was designated for assignment earlier in the day by Arizona, so, whoops.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Daniel Descalso (IF, Cardinals) was acquired by Shoeless Jews for a $0 bid. Shoeless Jews had no 2B on their roster, as Paul had (wisely) released Emmanuel Burriss in April, and alternate Eric Young, Jr had only appeared in 5 OF games to that point.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Jordan Pacheco (3B, Rockies) was listed as a contingency bid for Get Off Kong ($3, received Travis Ishikawa instead), and Misogynistic Padres ($0, received Adam Kennedy instead).

Roster Moves – Week 7 – May 15th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • IF Elian Herrera, Dodgers ($0 bid, add to actives at UT)
  • SP Christian Friedrich, Rockies ($5 bid, add to actives)
  • SP Archie Bradley, Diamondbacks prospect ($0 bid, reserve)

Cuts:

  • RP Bryan Shaw
  • UT Cody Ransom
  • 2B Daniel Descalso

Notes:

  • The RoadRunners came up short on bidding for new (temporary) San Diego closer Dale Thayer.  Bids: $15 (Misogynistic Padres), $6 (RoadRunners), $5 (Get Off Kong).
  • IF Elian Herrera was called up by the Dodgers to play 3B, and he can hit for average and has speed.  Last week’s pickup of Cody Ransom was a week late, as he put up an 0-fer the week, and Ryan Roberts is back in place again.  From RotoWorld: The 27-year-old Herrera was batting .358 with a .381 on-base percentage, nine stolen bases, and he stole at least 30 bases in each of the previous three seasons.
  • SP Friedrich re-joins the RoadRunners, this time in the major leagues. Filling in for injured Rockies starters, he now has 17 strikeouts through two outings. Sure, they’ve come against the Padres and Giants, but that’s still awfully impressive, and what was supposed to be a short stint in the majors now seems poised to turn into something more. He struck out 10 Giants and allowed 1 run in seven innings last night. Friedrich was the RoadRunners first selection in the 2010 Minor League draft (1st Round, 2nd drafted, 4th overall).
  • It was time to pull the trigger on picking up Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley, who should be a great keeper.  The right-hander is currently 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 44 K’s in 40 innings (and only 14 hits!) at Single-A South Bend.
  • Padres SP Tim Stauffer was activated from the 15-Day DL yesterday in time for his start at Washington.  Stauffer was a bit rough, allowing 7 hits, 3 walks and 5 K’s in 5 innings. 4 runs were allowed (3 Earned). He also allowed a home run to Bryce Harper, the youngest person to hit a homer in the majors in 14 years. He’ll stay reserved for another week until he shakes out the rust.

Roster Moves – Week 6 – May 8th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • OF Oscar Taveras, Cardinals ($0 bid, Prospect, Minors)
  • 3B Cody Ransom, Diamondbacks ($0 bid, Add to Actives at UT)

Move:

  • OF Tony Campana (from UT)

Down:

  • OF J.D. Martinez

Cut:

  • RP Fernando Salas
  • OF Domonic Brown (Minors)

Notes:

  • Bidding was heated on new Cubs closer Rafael Dolis. The Atomic RoadRunners bid $11, but X-Men won the bidding at $26. Other bids were $17 (Shoeless Jews) and $10 (Misogynistic Padres). Dolis will split time with James Russell (no bids) as Carlos Marmol has repeatedly imploded.
  • No other bids were placed on Taveras or Ransom.
  • Astros OF J.D. Martinez has been in a slump, batting .175 over the past 3 weeks, with only 2 extra-base hits (both doubles). He was batting .056 the past 7 games, with 1 hit in 18 AB.
  • Diamondbacks Cody Ransom has been playing a lot at 3B in place of ice-cold Ryan Roberts.  It won’t last for the 38-year old journeyman, but he’s currently hitting .351 with 4 HR in 37 AB this season, which could be useful.
  • RP Fernando Salas was released due to poor performance. Benched on the RoadRunners after Week 2, Salas keeps getting lit up, with a 6.35 ERA and 2.029 WHIP, and his numbers are trending the wrong way.  21-14-7 day progression for ERA: 7.04 – 8.44 – 10.80.  Same for WHIP: 2.087 – 2.250 – 2.700.  Stats while active for AaRr: 3.2 IP, 6 K’s, 4.91 ERA, 1.91 WHIP. Looks like we got out before too much damage had occurred.
  • Phillies “prospect” OF Domonic Brown was released as well. The Phillies basically ruined him. The brought in 3 free-agent OF’s to compete for the LF job (Scott Podsednik, Juan Pierre, and Laynce Nix), plus incumbent John Mayberry, Jr.  Meanwhile, the future of the elderly franchise gets sent to AAA for the third season, where he’s (probably) dejected and is currently batting .247 in 93 ABs with 0 HR, 3 SB, 9 Runs and 13 RBI, with an OPS of .645.  If anyone needs a change of scenery, Brown is it.
  • Meanwhile new OF prospect, St. Louis Cardinal Oscar Taveras, is raking, and is primed to contribute in 2013.  Currently assigned to Double-A Springfield, Taveras is hitting .325 in 114 ABs, with 8 HR, 27 RBI, 16 Runs and 2 SB – with an OPS of 1.032.
