Roster Moves – Week 10 – June 5th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Shawn Camp, Cubs ($2 bid, add to actives)
  • RP Brad Lincoln, Pirates ($1 bid, add to actives)
  • 2B/OF Alex Castellanos, Dodgers ($1, reserve)

Up:

  • 2B/3B Elian Herrera (to MI)
  • 3B Chris Johnson (to CM)
  • OF Tony Campana

Move:

  • SS Zack Cozart (from MI to SS)

Down:

  • 1B Matt Adams (from CM)
  • OF Jose Tabata
  • SS Troy Tulowitzki (15-Day DL)
  • SP Mike Minor

Cut:

  • SP Tim Stauffer
  • SP Jake Westbrook
  • SP Archie Bradley

Notes:

  • On May 31st, SS Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the 15-Day DL with a strained left groin.
  • SP Tim Stauffer has no timetable for his return from a sprained elbow injury, so I needed the roster space.
  • SP Jake Westbrook has lost his effectiveness, with an 8.55 ERA and 1.850 WHIP over the past three weeks.
  • 2B/OF Alex Castellanos was the fallback bid for Braves SS Andrelton Simmons.  I bid $6, and Get Off Kong! bid $7 (he had already released him). GOK had bid on Castellanos as 3rd contingency for $2.
  • A contingency bid for Shawn Camp was Pirates (and 2012 RoadRunner) Jason Grilli. Shoeless Jews got him for $1.

Roster Moves – Week 4 – April 24th, 2012

FAAB Acquisition:

  • OF Tony Campana, Cubs ($5 bid, add to actives at UT)

Up:

  • RP Wilton Lopez

Down:

  • 2B Daniel Descalso (from UT)

Cut:

  • RP Jason Grilli

Notes:

  • With SP Chris Narveson going on the DL (and subsequently being out for the year with a torn labrum), Brewers called up SP Wily Peralta on Saturday, but sent him back down to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.  Peralta basically assisted in long relief while Kameron Loe was on the bereavement list.
  • There were no other bids on OF Tony Campana, who looks to get a large amount of playing time in CF after the Cubs traded Marlon Byrd to the Red Sox.  Campana already had 2 steals his first night.  I was pretty certain that I would be out-bid, but I’ll take an extra 20 steals any day.

Roster Moves – Week 3 – April 17th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Santiago Casilla, Giants ($23 bid, add to actives)
  • RP Bryan Shaw, Diamondbacks ($6 bid, add to actives)
  • RP Jason Grilli, Pirates ($5 bid, add to actives)

Up:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz

Down:

  • OF Jose Tabata
  • RP Fernando Salas
  • RP Wilton Lopez

Cut:

  • C/CM Jordan Pacheco
  • RP Eric O’Flaherty
  • OF Chris Denorfia

Notes:

  • Rockies’ Jordan Pacheco was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to allow the promotion of 5th starter Drew Pomeranz. Fellow utilityman Chris Nelson pretty much won the 3B job over the first two weeks.
  • Giants’ Santiago Casilla is the presumptive favorite to gain saves in place of closer Brian Wilson, who is getting a second opinion on his elbow by Dr. James Andrews tomorrow, and will likely have Tommy John surgery.  Other candidates are Sergio Romo (protected by Stanimals), lefty Jeremy Affeldt, and Javier Lopez (both still available).  Bidding was tight: $23 (AaRr), $22 (Shoeless Jews), $17 (X-Men), and $13 (Get Off Kong). Casilla has only had 3 appearances, and he has a 0.00 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 2 K’s in 2.2 innings.
  • The Diamondbacks’ Bryan Shaw has gotten two saves on days that closer J.J. Putz hasn’t been available, one on a day that presumptive closer-in-waiting David Hernandez was available.  Bidding: $6 (AaRr), $4 (Shoeless Jews), and $3 (X-Men). Shaw has a 0.00 ERA and 0.50 WHIP in 6 one-inning appearances, with 2 saves and 8 K’s.
  • Pirates’ RP Jason Grilli was anointed set-up guy to closer Joel Hanrahan last week, and he’s done quite well thus far, with a 1.80 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in five appearances.  I was the only bidder for Grilli.
  • In the FAAB run, Get Off Kong, Shoeless Jews, and X-Men were shut out of acquisitions.  Only the Atomic RoadRunners and Stanimals made successful bids. Stan got Pirates backup catcher Mike McKenry in place of 4th string Jake Fox, a move long overdue.
  • Fernando Salas was sent down due to his rough numbers thus far.  The set-up guy for closer Jason Motte, Salas has had some rough outings thus far, with a 4.91 ERA and 1.91 WHIP, with 7 hits and 6 K’s in 6 appearances (3.2 innings).
