Say Goodbye To: Jose Contreras, Jason Jaramillo

RP – Jose Contreras
Acquired: May 18th, 2010 ($42 FAAB)
Released: June 22nd, 2010
Jose Contreras was a disasterous FAAB selection, at a time when Ryan Madson had kicked a laundry cart and gone on the 60-Day DL with a broken toe, and closer Brad Lidge was battling more elbow injuries and ineffectiveness. We had been tracking him even in Spring Training, but for all that effort, we got a whopping 2 saves from him. BUT, those two saves were enough to catapult the RoadRunners out of a three-way tie for 8th, into sole possession of 8th. Woo!

C – Jason Jaramillo
Acquired: May 4th, 2010 ($0 FAAB)
Released: June 22nd, 2010
Pirates catcher Jason Jaramillo was recommended as a pickup by none other than Peter Gammons, who has descended into another level of senility with the suggestion. Gammons had it on good authority that starting catcher Ryan Doumit would be traded, and that Jaramillo would be the starter. So the RoadRunners wasted a whole $0 bid on him as a backup, who ended up being active with the demotion of starting C Chris Iannetta. Jaramillo continued to play poorly, and was sent down to AAA Indianapolis. So there.

  • On Friday, June 18th, the Rockies placed SS Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-Day Disabled List with a broken hammate bone in his left wrist, courtesy of a plunking by Twins pitcher Alex Burnett.  Surgery won’t be necessary, but Tulo will be out 6-8 weeks, and will likely take another six weeks to regain his power stroke.
  • The Roadrunners bid $5 on young Padres OF Aaron Cunningham, but were out-bid by Get Off Kong!, who got him for $7.

Jaramillo’s MLB Playing Time About to End

Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Sunday that backup catcher Jason Jaramillo could be optioned to the minors shortly. Jaramillo, 27, has hit just .180/.261/.262 in 61 at-bats this season as Ryan Doumit’s understudy. Erik Kratz, 30, has enjoyed a nice start to the year down in Triple-A Indianapolis and could soon be given a shot in the bigs. (Rotoworld)

Jaramillo Notches Four RBI Against Mets

Jason Jaramillo went 2-for-4 with four RBI in a win over the Mets on Thursday. He continues to hit well in the absence of Ryan Doumit. Jaramillo is now batting .282/.365/.412 with 12 RBI in 85 at-bats for the Pirates. (Rotoworld)

Meet the New Guys: Jason Jaramillo, Jose Tabata

Pirates C Jason Jaramillo was selected to fill the shoes of the recently demoted Chris Iannetta. Jaramillo may have his uses later this season as well, as it is rumored that starter Ryan Doumit may be traded by the deadline, and he also has a penchant for injuries. Jaramillo hit his first homer of the season Saturday, a solo shot in a 5-2 loss to the Astros. Jaramillo has just 14 at-bats this season as he continues to back up Ryan Doumit. He remains barely worth worrying about in the deepest of NL-only formats. (CBS Sports)

Pirates AAA OF Jose Tabata rejoins the Roadrunner squad, after spending a month on the 2009 edition. Tabata had four hits and three steals for Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. Tabata was 11-for-19 stealing bases in 93 games last year, but he’s already 12-for-13 in 22 games this season. He’s also batting .330/.391/.450 in his 100 at-bats. More power would be nice, but he’s still primarily a contact guy, something that will limit his upside in the majors. (Rotoworld)
