  • Blanks’ nickname is apparently the “Pillsbury ‘Fro Boy” – at least online

Grabow Pitches Two Very Shaky Scoreless Innings

Pirates RP John Grabow worked two scoreless relief innings Wednesday against the Twins, but it didn’t come without some troubles. Against Grabow in the seventh, the Twins loaded the bases with one out and couldn’t score. Joe Crede bounced one back toward the mound to end that threat. Grabow allowed one hit, walked three and struck out one in two innings. Grabow has been pitching very effective lately. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last 15 outings. He is one of the Pirates’ long relievers and gets a save chance every now-and-then, but Grabow remains more of a Fantasy flier in leagues that use true middle men. (CBS Sports)

Grabow Just Not That Good

John Grabow allowed four runs on Sunday, running his string to six straight appearances of giving up at least one run. “The ball’s coming out of my hand really well,” Grabow told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “It’s just not going where I want it to go. I’m just going through a period like nothing I’ve gone through before. It’s got to be my mechanics.” Don’t let your fantasy team go through the same woes Grabow’s going on right now — the bench is the best place for him. (Rotowire)

Grabow May Get Saves with Capps Ailing

John Grabow could see some closing duties in the coming days with Matt Capps (elbow) unable to pitch, MLB.com reports. Capps is only expected to be sidelined for a few days, so Grabow shouldn’t pick up much more than a cheap save or two. He’s also been struggling lately, so Tyler Yates could see the bulk of the ninth inning work while Capps heals up. (Rotowire)

Grabow Merits News By Stinking Up the Joint

John Grabow has allowed at least a run in his last four outings. Grabow gave up two hits and a walk while retiring just one batter Monday against Milwaukee. Grabow has three holds in 12 outings after posting 16 in 74 games last year, but he hasn’t pitched well in the past couple weeks. (Rotowire)

Roster Moves – May 5th – Week 5

FAAB Acquisition:

  • SP Chad Gaudin
  • CM Emilio Bonifacio
  • OF Austin Kearns (to DH)

Down:

  • RP John Grabow
  • RP Kyle McClellan
  • RP Juan Gutierrez
  • 3B Brian Barden
  • OF Jody Gerut

Cut:

  • OF Jose Tabata (Minors)

Notes:

  • Tabata will miss the next six weeks with a hamstring strain, and he was only hitting .250 at AA Altoona, so at this point he’s not a strong protection for 2010.

Grabow’s Scoreless Streak Snapped

Pirates reliever John Grabow allowed two earned runs in Monday’s game in Milwaukee, snapping his 10-inning scoreless streak to begin the season. Grabow has struck out 10 batters in 10 1/3 innings of work this season to go along with good WHIP and ERA numbers to this point. He has three holds and even a relief win and is a viable option in any league that rewards the use of true middle relievers. It also helps that the Pirates have gotten off to a better start than anyone would have expected. (CBS Sports)

Grabow Continues Scoreless Streak

John Grabow struck out the side to record his seventh scoreless appearance of the season on Wednesday. He’s currently working out of a set-up role in front of closer Matt Capps, while Grabow would be the most likely candidate to step in for save situations if anything were to happen to the Bucs’ ninth-inning specialist. (Rotowire)

Grabow Unscored Upon In 2009

Pirates RP John Grabow has yet to give up a run in 3 1/3 innings over three appearances this season. Grabow is going to be used as a setup guy it looks like, so he could be a decent source of holds for owners in deeper NL-only leagues if the Pirates can get a few leads here and there. (CBS Sports)
