Roster Moves – Week 20 – August 7th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • 2B Donovan Solano, Marlins ($2 bid, Add to Actives at MI)
  • OF Travis Snider, Pirates ($5 bid, Add to Actives)

Up:

  • RP Brad Lincoln

Down:

  • SP Edinson Volquez
  • 2B Logan Forsythe (from MI)
  • OF Scott Moore

Cut:

  • OF Jose Tabata
  • OF Tony Campana

Notes:

  • OF Tony Campana was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on August 5th
  • The RoadRunners made multiple bids this week in light of the MLB trade deadline.
  • Previously-released OF Domonic Brown (now called up) was landed by Shoeless Jews for a $13 bid. We bid $5.
  • Previously-released OF Nate Schierholtz (now with Philadelphia) was acquired by Misogynistic Padres for a $7 bid. In addition to our $5 bid, Goodfellas bid $5, Get Off Kong bid $4, and Cover Zero bid $0.
  • New Pirate OF Travis Snider was our third choice to use our $5 FAAB bid on.
  • Previously-released C Welington Castillo of the Cubs (now starting with Geovany Soto traded to the Rangers) was acquired by Misogynistic Padres for an $11 bid.  The RoadRunners had bid $8, while Get Off Kong had bid $5
  • Contingency Catcher Erik Kratz of the Phillies was acquired by Goodfellas for a $5 bid.  The RoadRunners had bid $3.
  • New Brewers SS Jean Segura (acquired from the Angels in the Zack Greinke trade) went to Shoeless Jews on a $15 bid, while the RoadRunners bid $4.  2B Donovan Solano was our backup bid.
  • The RoadRunners made a play for Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin (due to Daniel Hudson’s Tommy John surgery), with a $0 bid. Shoeless Jews acquired him for $11.

Roster Moves – Week 19 – July 31st, 2012

(no actual roster moves)

Notes:

  • July 27th – SP Zack Greinke was traded from Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels for SS Jean Segura and two other minor leaguers
  • July 29th – 3B Chris Johnson was traded from the Houston Astros to the Arizona Diamondbacks for 3B Bobby Borchering and CM/OF Mark Krauss
  • July 30th – RP Brad Lincoln was traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Toronto Blue Jays for OF Travis Snider
  • July 31st – OF Hunter Pence was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the San Francisco Giants for former 2012 RoadRunner OF Nate Schierholtz, C Tommy Joseph, and a minor leaguer.
  • With the spectacular flame-out of Francisco Cordero with the Astros, the RoadRunners attempted to re-acquire previously-released RP Wilton Lopez. He was successfully acquired by Shoeless Jews for a $17 bid, while Get Off Kong! had bid $3, and the RoadRunners had bid $2.

Roster Moves – Week 8 – May 22nd, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • 1B Matt Adams, Cardinals ($12 bid, add to reserves)
  • 3B Todd Frazier, Reds ($5 bid, add to reserves)

Cuts:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz
  • SP Wily Peralta (Minors)

Notes:

  • SP Tim Stauffer was placed back on the 15-Day DL on 5/18, retroactive to 5/15 with the same forearm strain that caused him to miss the first six weeks of the season.
  • Brewers SP Wily Peralta was a casualty of a RoadRunners roster crunch. While being ranked as the top Brewers’ prospect, he hasn’t been sharp thus far at Triple-A Nashville,  owning a 1-4 record, with 5.36 ERA, 1.40 WHIP with a 38:22 K:BB ratio in 42 innings.
  • Giants OF Nate Schierholtz has been passed on the depth chart by Gregor Blanco, and this was with Aubrey Huff out and Brandon Belt playing at 1B exclusively.
  • New acquisition Matt Adams will likely see plenty of time at 1B for the Cardinals, as Lance Berkman injured his knee (6-8 weeks minimum) and Allen Craig is also on the DL.  AaRr won the bidding for $12, while Get Off Kong! bid $5 and Misogynistic Padres bid $2.
  • New acquisition Todd Frazier will likely be receiving playing time due to Scott Rolen’s extended DL stint (some suggesting he’ll be out for the year).  Additionally, Juan Francisco was traded to Atlanta, and Juan Cairo, well, he’s 38-years old. Misogynistic Padres was the only other bid, at $2.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Cody Ransom (3B, Diamondbacks) was picked up for a $0 bid by Cover Zero.  Ransom was designated for assignment earlier in the day by Arizona, so, whoops.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Daniel Descalso (IF, Cardinals) was acquired by Shoeless Jews for a $0 bid. Shoeless Jews had no 2B on their roster, as Paul had (wisely) released Emmanuel Burriss in April, and alternate Eric Young, Jr had only appeared in 5 OF games to that point.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Jordan Pacheco (3B, Rockies) was listed as a contingency bid for Get Off Kong ($3, received Travis Ishikawa instead), and Misogynistic Padres ($0, received Adam Kennedy instead).

Roster Moves – Week 5 – May 1st, 2012

Up:

  • OF Jose Tabata

Down:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz

Notes:

  • I contemplated picking up (for the second week in a row) Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin, who was called up Monday to start against Miami.  Didn’t really have room for him, but he did win the game with a lot of run support in a pitcher’s park.
  • Former 2012 RoadRunner Chris Denorfia was a 2nd contingency bid by Tim Nygard’s Misogynistic Padres, but Houston OF Brian Bogusevic was won with a $2 bid.  Tony Gwynn Jr. was the first contingency, followed by Colorado’s Eric Young, Jr. and then Washington’s Xavier Nady.
  • The Cubs called up C Welington Castillo yesterday, as backup Steve Clevinger is on the 15-Day DL.

Roster Moves – Week 3 – April 17th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Santiago Casilla, Giants ($23 bid, add to actives)
  • RP Bryan Shaw, Diamondbacks ($6 bid, add to actives)
  • RP Jason Grilli, Pirates ($5 bid, add to actives)

Up:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz

Down:

  • OF Jose Tabata
  • RP Fernando Salas
  • RP Wilton Lopez

Cut:

  • C/CM Jordan Pacheco
  • RP Eric O’Flaherty
  • OF Chris Denorfia

Notes:

  • Rockies’ Jordan Pacheco was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to allow the promotion of 5th starter Drew Pomeranz. Fellow utilityman Chris Nelson pretty much won the 3B job over the first two weeks.
  • Giants’ Santiago Casilla is the presumptive favorite to gain saves in place of closer Brian Wilson, who is getting a second opinion on his elbow by Dr. James Andrews tomorrow, and will likely have Tommy John surgery.  Other candidates are Sergio Romo (protected by Stanimals), lefty Jeremy Affeldt, and Javier Lopez (both still available).  Bidding was tight: $23 (AaRr), $22 (Shoeless Jews), $17 (X-Men), and $13 (Get Off Kong). Casilla has only had 3 appearances, and he has a 0.00 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 2 K’s in 2.2 innings.
  • The Diamondbacks’ Bryan Shaw has gotten two saves on days that closer J.J. Putz hasn’t been available, one on a day that presumptive closer-in-waiting David Hernandez was available.  Bidding: $6 (AaRr), $4 (Shoeless Jews), and $3 (X-Men). Shaw has a 0.00 ERA and 0.50 WHIP in 6 one-inning appearances, with 2 saves and 8 K’s.
  • Pirates’ RP Jason Grilli was anointed set-up guy to closer Joel Hanrahan last week, and he’s done quite well thus far, with a 1.80 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in five appearances.  I was the only bidder for Grilli.
  • In the FAAB run, Get Off Kong, Shoeless Jews, and X-Men were shut out of acquisitions.  Only the Atomic RoadRunners and Stanimals made successful bids. Stan got Pirates backup catcher Mike McKenry in place of 4th string Jake Fox, a move long overdue.
  • Fernando Salas was sent down due to his rough numbers thus far.  The set-up guy for closer Jason Motte, Salas has had some rough outings thus far, with a 4.91 ERA and 1.91 WHIP, with 7 hits and 6 K’s in 6 appearances (3.2 innings).

Roster Moves – Week 2 – April 10th, 2012

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • SP Jake Westbrook, Cardinals ($0 bid, add to actives)

Up:

  • C Devin Mesoraco
  • 2B Daniel Descalso (to UT)

Moves:

  • OF Juan Pierre (from UT)

Down:

  • OF Nate Schierholtz
  • C Jordan Pacheco
  • SP Tim Stauffer

Cut:

  • SP Chris Volstad

Notes:

  • SP Tim Stauffer was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List on Thursday, April 5th with a right   triceps injury.  This was announced after the Week 1 transaction deadline.
  • The Pi Train was the other bidder for Jake Westbrook ($4 bid), as he was 4th contingency for Anthony Bass, 3rd contingency for Lucas Harrell, 4th contingency for Kirk Nieuwenhuis,  3rd contingency for Justin Maxwell, all of which ended up being moot.
