Up:

  • RP Wilton Lopez

Down:

Cut:

Notes:

  • Only Get Off Kong! and Atomic Roadrunners made pickups this week.  GOK picked up former 2011 RoadRunner Kyle Lohse, who was also on Goodfellas from August 23 to September 13th.
  • OF Matt Holliday is “doubtful” for the rest of the season, due to inflammation of his right middle finger.  As of yesterday, he had yet to resume swinging a bat, even though the Cardinals are 2-1/2 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card race.

Roster Moves – Week 24 – September 6, 2011

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • SP Randy Wells, Cubs ($0 bid), add to actives
  • SP Wade Miley, Diamondbacks ($0 bid), add to actives

Up:

  • OF Drew Stubbs
  • RP Kenley Jansen

Down:

  • OF Jose Tabata
  • SP Tim Stauffer

  • SP Dillon Gee

Notes:

  • SP Wells had originally been drafted by The Pi Train for $4 in the 2011 WBRL auction, but was released on August 2nd.
  • OF Jose Tabata left Monday’s game with a hand injury. Tests revealed a small fracture in his wrist, and he’ll be out for 10 days, and perhaps the remainder of the season.
  • Reds C Devin Mesoraco and Padres 1B Anthony Rizzo were called up as September rosters expand.

February 1st is the deadline for submitting Protected Rosters for the upcoming season.  Players not being protected will then be released back into the player pool:

Protect for 2011:

  • C Buster Posey, Giants ($1)

Note:

  • Brewers OF Lorenzo Cain ($13) was traded to the Royals on December 19th, 2010 as a part of a multi-player trade that netted the Brewers SP Zach Greinke.
  • The protected list leaves the Roadrunners with $193 in protected salary, with $67 available for 9 players, for an average of $7.44 per player.

Final Roster Moves – Week 26 – September 28th, 2010

Up:

  • MI Angel Sanchez
  • OF Lorenzo Cain (to UT)
  • SP Randy Wells
  • RP Tyler Clippard

Down:

  • MI Jonathan Herrera
  • OF Marlon Byrd
  • SP Johnny Cueto
  • RP Kenley Jansen

Notes:

  • Cueto is pretty much gassed for the year, having matched Latos in giving up 8 ER in 1-1/3 IP last week.  Meanwhile, Wells has rebounded and is pitching solidly again.
  • Byrd may not play again this season.  He has a swollen eye after a foul-tip hit him in the face – he’s been inactive since Friday. Cain has been hot of late, so we’ll try to hold off the masses in the .AVG category.

Roster Moves – Week 20 – August 17th, 2010

Trade:

  • Atomic Roadrunners receives:
    • 1B Albert Pujols, Cardinals (active at UT)
    • C Geovani Soto, Cubs (active at C)
    • SP Yovani Gallardo, Brewers (active)
    • SP Daniel Hudson, Diamondbacks (active)
  • The Pi Train receives:
    • RP Drew Storen, Nationals
    • SP Madison Bumgarner, Giants
    • 1B Brandon Belt, Giants (minors)

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • 2B Brooks Conrad, Braves ($2 bid), Add to actives

Up:

  • RP Hong-Chih Kuo

Down:

  • C Ronny Paulino
  • OF Lorenzo Cain
  • SP Randy Wells

Cut:

  • 2B Luis Castillo
  • OF Matt Diaz

Notes:

  • Cubs C Geovany Soto is currently on the 15-Day disabled list (retroactive to August 7th) with an injured throwing shoulder.  There are chances that he will not return this season, but the latest news is that he’s scheduled to take batting practice later today, and may return on Sunday, August 22nd.
  • The Pi Train had coveted Storen all summer, and Bumgarner only has one season remaining on his contract.
  • Goodfellas picked up former Roadrunner Danny Espinosa of the Nationals.  There’s a chance he might get a September audition, but he can no longer be protected in the minor leagues (this season).
  • Of the new acquisitions, only Gallardo is protectable (2/$27). Both Soto ($10) and Pujols ($37) have expiring contracts, and Hudson was traded in-season from the White Sox (AL) in the Edwin Jackson deal.
  • In a stunning move, Pirate Smokers made transactions today.  Having only previously made a move on April 27th (Jason Heyward up, Carlos Beltran down), Mark made two pickups (Octavio Dotel and Sergio Casilla), activated Beltran finally (he came off the DL in July) and finally sent down Brandon Webb (60-Day DL, likely to miss all of 2010).

Roster Moves – Week 14 – July 6th, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Joel Hanrahan, Pirates ($0 FAAB) – Add to Actives

Up:

  • 3B Chase Headley
  • RP Drew Storen
  • SP Randy Wells

Down:

  • 3B Casey Blake
  • RP Sam Demel
  • SP Chris Volstad
  • SP John Ely

Cut:

  • SS Danny Espinosa

Notes:

  • No other bidders on Hanrahan, who joins the Roadrunners for the first time in his career, though he was tracked from Los Angeles to Washington and now to Pittsburgh. He’s a hedge for saves, with the expectation that Pirates closer Octavio Dotel will be dealt in the coming weeks.
  • Update (7/7): The Marlins demoted Chris Volstad to AAA New Orleans after Tuesday night’s rough start.
  • All-Star Teams were announced this weekend, and the Roadrunners have six on the roster.
    • SP Josh Johnson
    • 2B Brandon Phillips
    • SS Troy Tulowitzki (injured, will not participate)
    • UT Omar Infante (really? This selection universally panned)
    • OF Marlon Byrd
    • OF Matt Holliday

Roster Moves – Week 13 – June 29th, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Sam Demel, Diamondbacks ($2 bid), Add to actives
  • RP Hong-Chih Kuo, Dodgers ($1 bid), Add to actives

Up:

  • SS Jonathan Herrera
  • SP Chris Volstad
  • SP John Ely

Down:

  • SS Omar Infante
  • RP Drew Storen
  • RP Tyler Clippard
  • SP Randy Wells
  • SP Ian Kennedy

Cut:

  • SP Christian Friedrich (AA – Minors)
  • SP Jordan Lyles (AA – Minors)

Notes:

  • SP Madison Bumgarner was called up from AAA Fresno Saturday, June 26th, for his 2010 debut against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
  • Hong-Chih Kuo rejoins the Roadrunners for the first time since 2007, when he helped the pitching staff as a starter in the second half.
  • Kuo was originally drafted this season by Get Off Kong! (11th Round, 2010 Minor League Draft), but he was released on May 4th.
  • Kuo was a second contingency FAAB selection by Cover Zero.
  • The Pi Train bid $1 on Sam Demel, but was outbid by yours truly.
  • Cover Zero selected former 2o1o Roadrunner Jose Contreras for $0 FAAB bid.
  • Demel’s contract is for 1 year, as he came over from the Oakland A’s AAA Sacramento affiliate to the Diamondbacks in the Conor Jackson trade two weeks ago.

Roster Moves – Week 12 – June 22nd, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • 2B Jonathan Herrera, Rockies ($6 FAAB), Reserve
  • SS Danny Espinosa, Nationals ($0 FAAB), Reserve

Up:

  • 3B Casey Blake
  • SS Omar Infante
  • SP Randy Wells

Down:

  • 3B Chase Headley
  • SS Troy Tulowitzki
  • SP Chris Volstad

Cut:

  • C Jason Jaramillo
  • RP Jose Contreras

Notes:

  • On Friday, June 18th, the Rockies placed SS Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-Day Disabled List with a broken hammate bone in his left wrist, courtesy of a plunking by Twins pitcher Alex Burnett.  Surgery won’t be necessary, but Tulo will be out 6-8 weeks, and will likely take another six weeks to regain his power stroke.
  • The Roadrunners bid $5 on young Padres OF Aaron Cunningham, but were out-bid by Get Off Kong!, who got him for $7.

Wells – Needs to Get Head in the Game

Randy Wells, who has struggled lately in the first inning of his starts, claims his problem is mental and confesses to having a confidence problem, according to the Daily Herald. The Cubs have tried to change his pregame routine to help Wells with his early inning struggles, but he doesn’t think it will help. “I understand what they’re trying to do,” Wells said. “I understand they’re trying to take my mind off the first-inning troubles or whatever. Personally, I don’t agree with it. I’ve done the same routine ever since I’ve been a pitcher, and it’s worked in the past. As much as I hate to admit it, I think it’s a mental thing.” He will have to overcome the problem soon if he doesn’t want to see his rotation spot jeopardized. (Rotowire)

Roster Moves – Week 10 – June 8th, 2010

Up:

  • SP Wade LeBlanc
  • SP Chris Volstad

Down:

  • RP Jose Contreras
  • SP Randy Wells

Note:

  • Former Roadrunner LaTroy Hawkins was moved from the 15-Day to the 60-Day DL, so A. releasing him was a good move, and B. John Axford is a little safer, once Hoffman’s attempts are completed.
