Robinzon Diaz Starting Over Jaramillo

Robinzon Diaz started at catcher over Jason Jaramillo Tuesday and batted fifth in the lineup. Manager John Russell said that Jason Jaramillo would start most games over Diaz, but Diaz has forced his hand by playing very well defensively in addition to providing offense. “I like J.J., but Diaz is swinging the bat well, and we want to take advantage of that,” Russell told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We’re lucky to have two good, young catchers.” Diaz doesn’t provide much pop but carries a .304 lifetime batting average in the minor leagues. Look for Russell to go with whichever catcher is hot at the plate as both backstops have shown to be defensively competent. (Rotowire)

Robinzon Diaz Beneficiary of Hot Hands

In a surprise C Robinzon Diaz is batting fifth for the Pirates Tuesday. Diaz has an 8-for-18 line against right-handers and has gone 6-for-15 over the last four games. Clearly, John Russell is riding the hot hand. (Rotoworld)
