Note:

  • Brewers OF Lorenzo Cain ($13) was traded to the Royals on December 19th, 2010 as a part of a multi-player trade that netted the Brewers SP Zach Greinke.
  • The protected list leaves the Roadrunners with $193 in protected salary, with $67 available for 9 players, for an average of $7.44 per player.

Final Roster Moves – Week 26 – September 28th, 2010

Up:

  • MI Angel Sanchez
  • OF Lorenzo Cain (to UT)
  • SP Randy Wells
  • RP Tyler Clippard

Down:

  • MI Jonathan Herrera
  • OF Marlon Byrd
  • SP Johnny Cueto
  • RP Kenley Jansen

Notes:

  • Cueto is pretty much gassed for the year, having matched Latos in giving up 8 ER in 1-1/3 IP last week.  Meanwhile, Wells has rebounded and is pitching solidly again.
  • Byrd may not play again this season.  He has a swollen eye after a foul-tip hit him in the face – he’s been inactive since Friday. Cain has been hot of late, so we’ll try to hold off the masses in the .AVG category.

Roster Moves – Week 24 – September 14th, 2010

FAAB Acquisition:

  • SS Angel Sanchez, Astros ($0 bid) – Active at MI

Up:

  • 3B Chase Headley
  • OF Drew Stubbs (to UT)
  • SP Edinson VolquezCMCM
  • SP Yovani Gallardo
  • SP Ian Kennedy

Move:

  • UT Albert Pujols (to CM)

Down:

  • CM Adam LaRoche
  • MI Brooks Conrad
  • RP Aroldis Chapman
  • RP Tyler Clippard
  • SP Josh Johnson

Cut:

  • MI Geoff Blum

Notes:

  • The Marlins have shut down SP Josh Johnson for the 2010 season. He has an inflamed shoulder and a pulled back muscle, and he missed a throwing session over the weekend.  Since Johnson’s WBRL contract expires after this season, I guess it’s goodbye.
  • Hitting roster moves for this week were made purely on a batting average and stolen base basis.  So LaRoche (who contributes only in HR and RBI and is slumping a bit) goes to the bench for the first time in 2010.  Similarly, slumping 3B Chase Headley gets activated over similarly-slumping Casey Blake, due to Blake’s lack of mobility.
  • The only other team to make FAAB pickups, second-place Get Off Kong!, picked up former 2010 Roadrunner Luis Durango of the Padres.
  • Contingent selections for Sanchez were Colorado’s Jonathan Herrera (previously on the 2010 Roadrunners), and Cubs’ MI Darwin Barney.

Roster Moves – Week 23 – September 7th, 2010

Up:

  • OF Marlon Byrd
  • MI Brooks Conrad
  • RP Tyler Clippard

Down:

  • OF Drew Stubbs
  • MI Geoff Blum
  • RP Kenley Jansen

Note:

  • SP Edinson Volquez was recalled from Single-A Dayton, and may replace Aaron Harang in the rotation.

Roster Moves – Week 22 – August 31st, 2010

Up:

  • 3B Casey Blake
  • OF Drew Stubbs
  • RP Kenley Jansen
  • RP Aroldis Chapman

Down:

  • 3B Chase Headley
  • OF Lorenzo Cain
  • SP Yovani Gallardo
  • RP Tyler Clippard

Notes:

  • SP Edinson Volquez was sent down to Single-A Dayton for two starts to work on his consistency.  He’ll also be shadowing SP Aaron Harang, who is having issues coming back from injury.
  • This week was the first in 2010 in which no FAAB bids were placed.
  • Only three teams made roster moves – X-Men, Misogynistic Padres, and AaRr.  The Pi Train’s transaction was to adjust the contract of OF Brad Hawpe, who was released by Colorado and signed with the AL’s Tampa Bay Rays.

Roster Moves – Week 21 – August 24th, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • OF Cameron Maybin, Marlins ($1 bid), Reserve
  • UT Geoff Blum, Astros ($0 bis), Active at MI

Up:

  • RP Tyler Clippard
  • OF Lorenzo Cain

Down:

  • MI Brooks Conrad
  • SP Edinson Volquez
  • OF Roger Bernadina

Cut:

  • C Ronny Paulino
  • SS Cristian Guzman

Notes:

  • C Ronny Paulino was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for PEDs.  Since the Marlins only had 42 games left, he’s done for the season.  There have been 2 MLB PED suspensions this season, and the Roadrunners have had both (the other was Edinson Volquez).
  • The Roadrunners need one more steal to obtain 50 hitting points.  We’re stuck at 49.5 currently. However, the pitching has hemmorraged WHIP and ERA this week, dropping almost 5 points.  We went from 4th to 7th in WHIP and 3rd to 5th in ERA.
  • The Pi Train added former 2010 Roadrunner Nick Masset to his roster with a $0 bid. Masset has recovered nicely from his 5 earned runs given up on Opening Day. So have the Roadrunners, actually.
  • OF Cameron Maybin is expected to be the everyday CF for the Marlins starting today, as OF Cody Ross was claimed by (and traded to) the Giants. Maybin was originally purchased by Get Off Kong! for $11 in the 2010 WBRL auction, so his salary will be effective here.
  • The Maybin acquisition for $1 FAAB was the last dollar in our budget.  It’ll be $0 bids from here on out, folks!
  • This post was published from Hudsonville, Michigan, where AaRr staff arrived late last night.  FAAB bids were submitted from Springfield, Missouri early Monday morning.

Roster Moves – Week 13 – June 29th, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Sam Demel, Diamondbacks ($2 bid), Add to actives
  • RP Hong-Chih Kuo, Dodgers ($1 bid), Add to actives

Up:

  • SS Jonathan Herrera
  • SP Chris Volstad
  • SP John Ely

Down:

  • SS Omar Infante
  • RP Drew Storen
  • RP Tyler Clippard
  • SP Randy Wells
  • SP Ian Kennedy

Cut:

  • SP Christian Friedrich (AA – Minors)
  • SP Jordan Lyles (AA – Minors)

Notes:

  • SP Madison Bumgarner was called up from AAA Fresno Saturday, June 26th, for his 2010 debut against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
  • Hong-Chih Kuo rejoins the Roadrunners for the first time since 2007, when he helped the pitching staff as a starter in the second half.
  • Kuo was originally drafted this season by Get Off Kong! (11th Round, 2010 Minor League Draft), but he was released on May 4th.
  • Kuo was a second contingency FAAB selection by Cover Zero.
  • The Pi Train bid $1 on Sam Demel, but was outbid by yours truly.
  • Cover Zero selected former 2o1o Roadrunner Jose Contreras for $0 FAAB bid.
  • Demel’s contract is for 1 year, as he came over from the Oakland A’s AAA Sacramento affiliate to the Diamondbacks in the Conor Jackson trade two weeks ago.

Overnight Dispatches – June 11th, 2010

Josh Johnson fired eight shutout innings on Thursday as the Marlins topped the Phillies 2-0. Johnson improved to 7-3 on the year while out-dueling the best pitcher in the National League: Roy Halladay. He struck out five batters and allowed only one hit while keeping a talented Phillies lineup to three hits. Leo Nunez earned his 13th save of the season with a nearly spotless ninth inning. (Rotoworld)

Tyler Clippard struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless ninth inning to notch the first save of his career on Thursday. Matt Capps has been used heavily lately, so Clippard was given the opportunity to close it out on Thursday. It’s interesting to note that prized rookie Drew Storen did not get the ball in the ninth inning, but rather Clippard. (Rotowire)

Jose Tabata (hamstring) was back in the Pirates’ lineup Thursday. Tabata collected his first career RBI with an opposite field double against Livan Hernandez Thursday night. Tabata hustled on his double and ran hard down the first base line on an infield groundout. It looks like the Bucs dodged a bullet with Tabata, but the promising rookie has dealt with a history of hamstring injuries throughout his minor league career. The rookie was lifted from Wednesday’s game with a cramp, but clearly it was just a precautionary measure. Tabata hit .308/.373/.423 for Triple-A Indianapolis before getting promoted to the big leagues earlier this week and is expected to bring a spark to the Pirates’ starting lineup. (Rotowire)

Madison Bumgarner has been fined and suspended three games for his actions in a Triple-A game on Monday. Bumgarner melted down after a runner was called safe after a pickoff attempt at first base. With Todd Wellemeyer likely headed to the disabled list before his next start, this could make Bumgarner less likely to be called up to take his place. Still, his suspension, which will cost him a start in Triple-A, keeps him eligible to be join the Giants before Wellemeyer’s next scheduled start. (Rotoworld)

Brandon Phillips went 4-for-5 with a two-run triple as part of an eighth-inning rally in the Reds’ 7-6 win over the Giants on Thursday. After Phillips’ triple tied the game at six, Joey Votto singled the second baseman in for the go-ahead run. Phillips had his big game while hitting leadoff for the first time since April 13, 2007 and just the 12th time in his career. He’s actually done quite well in those games, hitting .280 with three homers, seven RBI, nine runs scored and six walks. (Rotoworld)

Mat Latos allowed two runs and two hits over six innings Thursday as the Padres beat the Mets 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. He struck out eight in outdueling Johan Santana. Latos retired the final 13 batters he faced, but the Padres still chose to take him out after 99 pitches. Of course, that was an easier call with their bullpen. Luke Gregerson, Mike Adams and Heath Bell all pitched perfect innings after Latos left. He improved to 6-4 with the victory, bouncing back from a shaky outing against the Phillies in his last road start. Earlier this season, it looked like Latos would have to be streamed for his home starts, but he’s looking like a viable option even in shallow mixed leagues for most of his matchups thanks to a 64:20 K:BB ratio in 72.1 innings. (Rotoworld, Rotowire)

Roster Moves – Week 9 – June 1st, 2010

  • C Buster Posey

Down:

  • C Chris Iannetta
  • SP Wade LeBlanc
  • SP Chris Volstad

Cut:

  • OF Luis Durango

Notes:

  • Misogynistic Padres ($7 FAAB bid) was the only other team to bid on Axford.

Roster Moves – Week 7 – May 18th, 2010

FAAB Acquisitions:

  • RP Jose Contreras, Phillies ($42 bid), Add to Actives
  • SP John Ely, Dodgers ($5 bid), Add to Actives
  • OF Roger Bernadina ($2 bid), Add to Actives

Up:

Move:

Down:

  • 3B Casey Blake
  • RP Tyler Clippard
  • OF Jody Gerut

Cut:

  • OF Matt Diaz
  • RP Juan Gutierrez
  • RP LaTroy Hawkins

Notes:

  • Contreras was a possible draft-day target, but slipped of f the charts with Ryan Madson (protected) and Brad Lidge (drafted). Now with both on the DL (Madson until July, Lidge uncertain), Contreras is the man, and I need saves.  Only other bids: Shoeless Jews ($13)
  • Both X-Men and Misogynistic Padres put in $0 bids on Ely
  • Goodfellas bid $0 on Bernadina
  • My contingency bid for Bernadina was for Mets OF Chris Carter.  Since I got Bernadina, he went to X-Men for a $0 bid.
  • Shoeless Jews picked up former Roadrunner Takashi Saito for a $0 bid, whom I released last week
  • OF Matt Diaz was placed on the 15-Day DL on Saturday (May 15th) with an injured and infected thumb.
  • RP LaTroy Hawkins has been on the 15-Day DL for over a week, with no update on his status.
  • The Washington Nationals promoted RP Drew Storen from AAA to the major-league squad.
  • In the process of calling up Storen, former Roadrunner Brian Bruney was designated for assignment Sunday (May 16th)
  • Former Roadrunner Willy Taveras was designated for assignment on Monday (May 17th).
